WordPress MU Site Launch: DyingScene.com

dying_showsHere at Nicasio, we love a challenge. A challenging assignment is definitely what we were presented with when we were approached to build a new punk music news and community portal based on WordPress MU (multi-user). Dying Scene was born.

A traditional blog was needed for distributing news, of course.  But this site is so, so much more than a blog.  User profiles, user submitted news stories, a custom band/label/album/genre management system, localized show searches and more make Dying Scene one of the premiere music portals on the net.

Screenshots and a detailed feature breakdown after the break.

Some Notable Features of DyingScene.com:

  • User Profiles complete with custom user avatars
  • Localized show search of thousands of shows every day – updated nightly.
  • A database consisting of several thousand bands with bios, members, discography, and images.
  • Customized system that allows for both editor and site user based album reviews utilizing a slick AJAX star rating system.
  • A database of over 15,000 albums.
  • Ability for site users to submit their own news stories and album reviews.
  • User rankings – increase your Dying Scene ranking and notoriety by submitting stories, reviews and commenting on existing stories.
  • A highly customized admin using a custom plugin to control all of the site’s bands, labels, albums, shows, genres, users, reviews and more that we can’t tell you about. This isn’t your dad’s WordPress MU admin.
  • Highly linked data allows you to quickly and easily find the information you’re looking for based on bands, dates, labels, area, and more.
