People love top ten lists. I’m pretty sure there are even top ten lists of the top ten reasons why people love top ten lists. As a recent college graduate (Go Dawgs!), I thought it would be fun to look at how colleges and universities are using custom Wordpress sites. It’s a great example of how experts like those at Nicasio Design can design your Wordpress site. Wordpress is so much more than blogging. Just take a look at what people at these colleges and universities were able to accomplish with a little bit of Wordpress design. In no particular order, these are my top ten.

Wordpress: Why You Should Leave Easy to the Professionals

It seems like the beginning of a joke, right? Two horses and Wordpress walk into a bar. Cue the snare drum. You must be asking yourself, “Why would I pay someone good money to handle something as simple and easy-to-use as Wordpress?” Or maybe you are thinking it is not worth paying someone for something you could do yourself. These are valid thoughts, but let me let you in on a little secret. Why is it worth paying professionals? Because people judge books by their covers. Let me show you what I mean.

Creative Thinking + Custom WordPress Design

“Creative thinking and the determination to push the limits on innovation are the hallmark characteristics of entrepreneurs.  Having a strong presence on the Web gives business owners a great launch pad to showcase their innovative spirit and build brand awareness for the products and services they offer.” source.

The question is – what does a strong presence on the web look like? And once you have it,  how do you maintain it?

WordPress Site Launch: Strong Learning, Inc.

Strong Learning, Inc. Custom WordPress SiteWe just completed the launch of our latest project: an e-commerce website for Strong Learning, Inc.

Strong Learning had several needs going into this project. They needed a custom design, they needed a CMS that would allow them to quickly and easily manage their content, and they needed e-commerce integration into their existing 1 Shopping Cart account for both purchases and newsletter signups.

Through the use of WordPress, custom post types, custom taxonomies, and a custom navigation, all of these needs were met.

WordPress Site Launch: eTrain Today

Custom WordPress Site by Nicasio DesignThis is a fairly unique website that we had the pleasure of building out. eTrain Today already had a logo and a basic idea of where they wanted to go with design, but needed help getting their new business venture up and running.

eTrain provides online training and testing for people that work with hazardous materials and other jobs that require various certifications. This site had to be part e-commerce, part membership management, and part distance learning.

We ended up building the site on WordPress. Through the use of a custom theme, the Shopp plugin, a custom, AJAX powered e-learning plugin (written by Nicasio) and integration with Articulate’s Presenter software we delivered a solution that is functional, intuitive, and easy to use (for both the site admin and test takers).

WordPress Site Launch: R&J PR

Custom WordPress site by Nicasio DesignWe are proud to announce the launch of our latest custom WordPress Design and Development project.

R&J Public Relations required a robust content management system that allowed them to manage, edit and display several different types of data in innovative ways.

As there are several site editors, a simple and intuitive backend interface was required.

The solution we chose was a custom site using WordPress, built on a child theme of the TwentyTen theme. To accommodate the different data types being used on the site we used several different custom post types, each with its own custom taxonomies and custom meta boxes. This created a very intuitive and user friendly interface in the admin area of the site. Mix in some clean AJAX UI effects on the front end of the site (powered by jQuery) and you have R&J’s new, sleek site.
