WordPress Site Launch: Gary LeBeau for Senate

Custom WordPress Design and Development by Nicasio Design

While most of our projects are larger, custom design and development projects, sometimes a client just needs some simple theme customizations to meet their goals.

This was the case with a site we recently built for the Gary LeBeau for Connecticut State Senate campaign.

The site features a simple WordPress theme that we simply rebranded for the campaign. The result was a quick turn around for a fairly custom site. Screenshot after the break.

Internet Explorer 6 Usage Below 5%

It’s no secret that IE6 (Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6) is a security and web development nightmare.

Microsoft has dropped support for the browser as have many notable websites, including Google and YouTube.

So it’s very promising news that statcounter.com is reporting that IE6 usage in the USA and Europe has fallen below 5% for the first time ever.

Dreamweaver CS5 To Offer WordPress Code Completion

Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 will offer a series of new tools which are aimed to help PHP programmers and users of popular open source CMS such as WordPress and Joomla write code faster.

While I can definitely see the benefit of this functionality I have to say that as a developer I like to have full control over my code and I think I will have to stick to a more simplified text editor.

Not to take anything away from Adobe’s other great creative tools.

WordPress Site Launch: Unreal Studio

UnrealStudios_logo-blueOur latest projects is now live. Unreal Studio approached us with some great ideas and a theme they wanted to use as a framework.

Combine Unreal’s ideas with Nicasio’s creativity and WordPress knowledge and you come up with a site anyone would be proud of.

Our in-house designer, Chris Underwood, created all of the custom header graphics on the site from scratch.

One of the more fun aspects was upgrading the client from WordPress 2.2 -> 2.9.2 – blast from the past.

The Importance of APIs in the Future of Web Design

The world of web design and development is changing rapidly. New programming languages, open source blogging and CMS platforms are popping up left and right, and there are more proprietary systems out there than one person could ever hope to learn in one lifetime.

In this world it might seem like web design and development is moving in a thousand different directions, but in reality I think there is one constant that we are going to see grow more and more in the very near future and that is application APIs.

Is WordPress Killing Web Design?

It’s no secret that we are very fond of the WordPress platform here at Nicasio. We use WordPress on most of our web projects (unless of course another platform is a better fit for that particular project). Between the open source software from WordPress.org which allows anyone with minimal web knowledge to setup their own highly customizable blog/CMS and WordPress.com which allows anyone that signs up to create a new blog in minutes I have to ask – Is WordPress killing Web Design?
